Mongolia is whole on mountainous plateau with an average altitude of 1580 meters above the sea level. The highest point is the peak Nairamdal in the Altai mountains to the west, which reaches 4374 meters and the lowest point is the basin of Khokh lake to the east which lies at an altitude of 560 meters above the sea level.
The geography of Mongolia is characterized by great diversity and it is divided in four basically nature zones differing in climate, landscape, soil, flora and fauna.  There are Khangai zone in the north and northeast, Gobi zone in the south and south east, Steppe /semi desert / in the central and east and Mountain zone in the far west. 

Climate
Mongolia has an extreme continental and dry climate and four distinct seasons. Country boasts approximately 270 clear and sunny days per year mostly.
The average temperature in the hottest month July is
25'C in the North part of the country and 35'C in the Gobi Desert.
The temperature in the coldest month January ranges between -25'C to -30’C.
The burn and frost in the country are quite tolerable due to very dry air.
The average Rainfall annual in the country is 200-220 mm with
400-500 mm falling in the Khangai mountains but only
60-100 mm falling in some places of the Gobi Desert.
Summer and autumn, i.e. June to October, are definitely pleasant time to visit Mongolia.
